How STAG Media (Shoot Then Aim Gymnastics) handles your information. Last updated 3 August 2026.
Who we are
STAG Media ("Shoot Then Aim Gymnastics", "STAG", "we", "us") is a New Zealand-based gymnastics media organisation. We produce and broadcast live coverage of gymnastics competitions and run this website, stagmedia.co, where the community can watch live events, view replays, read our blog, and manage a STAG+ membership. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
We only collect what we need to run the service:
- Account details โ if you create a STAG+ account, your email address, display name, and a securely hashed password.
- Membership and payments โ if you subscribe, billing is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details; we keep only the subscription status and identifiers Stripe returns to us.
- Merch orders โ if you buy from our shop, Stripe collects your payment details, and we keep the order itself: what you bought, the amount, and the name, email, phone number, and delivery address needed to ship it to you.
- Community content โ comments and live-chat messages you post, along with the account they were posted from.
- Reports and blocks โ if you report a comment or chat message, we keep the reason, the reported content, and who reported it so we can review it. If you block another member, we store that choice against your account so we can hide their posts from you.
- Basic technical data โ standard information your browser sends (such as approximate anonymised page views) so we can keep the site running.
Filming and live coverage at events
Our core activity is filming gymnastics competitions, so this section explains how we handle footage of the people who appear in it. Cameras at an event capture the athletes competing, along with coaches, officials, and spectators who come into shot. Footage is broadcast live and is usually kept afterwards as a replay.
Competitions are run by event organisers, not by us. We film with the permission of the club, association, or organiser hosting the event. They run the competition and are responsible for telling participants that it is being filmed and for handling the consents their own policies require โ including consent from a parent or guardian where a competitor is under 18. If you are unsure whether an event you are entering will be streamed, ask the organiser.
Children in our coverage. A large number of gymnasts we film are children, and we treat that footage carefully. Alongside the video itself we only show the competition information the event already publishes, such as a competitor's name, club, and scores. We do not add contact details, ages, addresses, or any other personal information about a competitor to our coverage, and we do not use footage of children for advertising.
Asking us to remove footage. If you appear in our coverage and want it taken down, email stagmedianz@gmail.com with the event, the approximate time, and how to recognise you. A parent or guardian can make this request on behalf of a child. We will respond within 7 days and will remove, trim, or obscure the footage on our platforms where it is practicable to do so. We will always act on a request concerning a child. Please note that once a live broadcast has gone out we cannot recall copies other people may already have made.
How we use, process, and share your information
- To provide the website, live streams, replays, and STAG+ membership features.
- To manage your account, comments, and support requests.
- To process membership payments through Stripe.
- To operate and improve the reliability of the service.
Internally, your information is processed on our servers and is accessible only to the small STAG Media team for the purposes above โ for example, moderating comments or helping with a support request. We do not use your information for advertising profiling.
Externally, we never sell your personal information, and we do not share it with any third party except the service providers listed below, each of which receives only the minimum data it needs to perform its function for us. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.
Cookies and information stored on your device
Like most websites, we store, access, and collect certain information directly on or from your device so the site can work:
- Sign-in cookie โ when you sign in to a STAG+ account, we place a session cookie on your browser so you stay signed in. It identifies your session and nothing else.
- Local preferences โ we use your browser's local storage to remember choices such as your light/dark theme and player settings. This data stays on your device.
- Embedded YouTube player โ pages that play video use YouTube's embedded player, which may place cookies or use similar technologies on your device or browser (i.e. a third party storing or accessing information on your device). We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode where possible; YouTube's use of this technology is described in the Google Privacy Policy linked below.
- Anonymous view counting โ your browser may store a small local marker so we don't double-count your visit to a blog post. It contains no personal information.
You can clear or block cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings; the site will still work, though you will be signed out and your preferences reset.
Our use of the YouTube API Services
STAG Media uses the YouTube API Services to create and manage our own live broadcasts. When we cover a competition, our platform programmatically creates a clearly-labelled YouTube live event for each camera feed, connects it to its stream, and checks its status so we can display the correct live feed and its replay on this website. All broadcasts are our own original event coverage; we do not access, collect, or analyse other users' or channels' data through the API.
What YouTube data we store: the only data we store from the YouTube API Services are the identifiers and status of our own channel's broadcasts (broadcast, stream, and video IDs, titles, and live/ended state), retrieved with the authorisation of the STAG Media channel owner. We do not retrieve, store, or display YouTube statistics (such as view counts or likes), and we do not access any data belonging to other YouTube users or channels. Video playback on this site happens through YouTube's official embedded player.
Deleting stored data and revoking access: if you have authorised our API Client against your Google account, you can revoke its access at any time via the Google security settings page at https://myaccount.google.com/connections. You can also ask us to delete any stored data associated with you by emailing stagmedianz@gmail.com; we will delete it within 7 days. When authorisation is revoked, we delete stored data obtained through that authorisation within 30 days.
Because we use the YouTube API Services, our handling of any YouTube-related data is also governed by Google's policies. By using the parts of our site that display YouTube content, you are also agreeing to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's Privacy Policy explains how Google handles data.
Service providers we rely on
We use trusted third parties to run the service, and share only the data needed for each to do its job:
- Google / YouTube โ hosting and delivery of our live broadcasts and replays. When you watch an embedded video, your browser communicates directly with YouTube; we do not send YouTube any of your account information.
- Our own relay server โ we run a streaming relay (hosted with DigitalOcean) that receives camera feeds from event cameras, phones, and browsers so they can be broadcast. It handles video only, and no viewer information.
- Livepeer โ used as a fallback path for ingesting camera feeds from phones and browsers. Receives video streams only, no viewer information.
- Stripe โ secure payment processing for STAG+ memberships and shop orders. Receives your email and payment details when you subscribe or buy, and the delivery details you enter for a merch order.
- Supabase โ our database, storing the account, membership, and community data described above on our behalf.
- Vercel โ hosting of the website itself. Processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to serve pages to you.
Data retention and your choices
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time by contacting us. You can also close your STAG+ account, which removes your account data.
Contact us
